Update

Nothing much has happened on here in the last month or two despite a social and several other events. We've all been a bit busy.

This week promises to be eventfull however, with the first grading of the year happening on friday, and followed by the christmas meal on saturday evening at Cafe de China.

1- The grading will be at the normal training time on friday but will start promptly at 6.05pm, it will then go on slightly longer than normal, probably ending closer to 8.30pm.
Anyone hoping to grade should be sure to practice kata and basic techniques to make certain that they'll pass.

2 - The Christmas meal is normally a highlight of the end of the term, we'll be eating at Cafe de China, a chinese restaurant located along New Dover Road, near Planet Lazer and Aldi. We have a table booked for 7.00pm, and the meal is £16 for all you can eat, although drinks are extra. We'll proabably eaither head back to someones house, or to a pub in town afterwards too, so it should be a fun night.

Pictures to follow.

Ninja Social.

The social, held on tuesday night i'm pleased to say was somewhat more successfull than i'd anticipated, suffice to say we had at least half our membership turn up, and half of those dressed as ninjas.

Deniz has promised another social in 2 weeks which should allow us to be dressed in a slightly more traditional manner.

Pictures from tuesday will be here as soon as we get the right USB cable for the camera.
Keep posted.

Joining up

With the 2 trial weeks over it's time to start signing up to clubs, It's a fairly simple process and can be done entirely online.

If you liked karate and want to continue then it's essential you become a member of the club, mainly for insurance purposes, and also so that the union will give us money to spend.

simply go to http://beta.oncampus.net

Join up by adding a few details, and create a profile,

Click on 'discover groups' and search for 'karate' and any other groups you're going to join

Click the 'join' link

Follow the step-by-step process to make the payment and voila!

Once we have people signed up we can start to sort out uniforms and club hoodies, aswell as get definitive teams toegther.

More on this to come.

1 week in

We're 1 week into term and we've seen a great initial reaction to karate club. The first few sessions of the year went fairly well, with wednesday being by far the most popular day, we hope to emulate the same kind of success this week, the second half of the trail period and hopefully by friday we'll have an array of enthusiastic and comitted members.

Information on how and where to sign up as well as some more photos coming towards the end of the week.

Welcome aboard

With freshers fayre over and an unprecidented level of interest which we hope indicates a prosperous year for us, we're getting everything ready to kick off two weeks of open lessons, giving everyone an opportunity to see whether karate is right for them.
Wed 1st october is the first of these, and we hope to see a huge ammount of new faces. We've had interest from people at all levels of experience, from 2nd Dan to complete martial art novice, so it should be an interesting few weeks while everyone settles into their niche.

We look forward to meeting all of you very soon!

Expect photos and social news soon too.

Taste a sport

We kicked off the year with a short have-a-go session at the taste a sport event, which despite a relatively por volunteer turnout went pretty well, with no injuries.

Here are some pictures.

Keep an eye open for us at freshers week.

Karate club will be officially be appearing at several events over freshers week, most significantly on Wednesday, 'Taste a sport' at the sports hall and Friday, 'sports and community faire' So be sure to keep an eye out for anyone wandering around in a gi or wearing one of our hoodies.

Also we're going to have to sort out some socials and whatnot, it'll be fine.

Term rapidly approaching.

As the end of the holidays draws near we're going to see things start to pick up again for the club in preparation for the new term, I'll be getting leaflets drawn up this weekend, and start to think about sports fayre and persuading people to join us!

I've already had a few enquiries which has been heartening so hopefully we can look forward to a productive term.

Updates

This week i've finally gotten round to editing this thing, I've changed the symbol so now it looks a bit nicer, but if anyone can find, or produces a better one then let me know, but until then i'm inclined to use this one.

Keep posted for the video, i've started work on that now, and it should be finished and ready by the end of the week and depending on how happy i am with it, it should appear on youtube and this site over the weekend.

Other news - the badges came, they're pretty good. (see above)
